For the 13th consecutive season, the College Football Researchers Association has bestowed a Player of the Year award to the best overall player in college football, and this season Ashton Jeanty, from Boise State has taken the title and become the first running back to ever win this award! Runner-up Travis Hunter actually garnered the same number for first-place votes as Jeanty (6) but more people had Hunter lower on their ballot than Jeanty. Not surprisingly, there was a significant drop off in the voting between Jeanty/Hunter and the rest of the field. And while we won’t yet know the results of the Heisman Trophy race until Saturday, it is interesting that the four finalists for that award were the top four vote-getters for this honor. Without further ado, here is the full breakdown of votes below with the number of first-place votes each player received in parentheses:
1. Ashton Jeanty, Boise State (6)– 53 points
2. Travis Hunter, LSU (6)– 51 points
